Summer Camps

For decades, Norman Bird Sanctuary has welcomed hundreds of campers to our award-winning Summer Camp each summer. Our age-appropriate and innovative camps offer a unique blend of hands-on learning, games, animal encounters and team building. Camp groups utilize our outdoor classrooms and are held in small groups with caring, enthusiastic, and professional Teacher Naturalists. Summer Camp will run for eight-week-long sessions from June 24 through August 16, 2024.

Summer Camp Programs

We offer the following camps on an annual basis. Registration is open for Summer 2024.

Fledglings Summer Camp

June 24 - August 16, Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. OR 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Ages 3.5 - 5 years

Main NBS Campus

In our half-day Fledglings program, campers will make new friends, explore the Sanctuary's trails, beach and tide pools, listen to stories, create crafts, and sing songs. Our half-day Fledglings program is a perfect introduction to camp for your younger learner. This program benefits from a lower child to staff ratio with a maximum of 10 campers and 2 staff. Campers can choose from either a morning or afternoon session. Please note that campers must be potty trained.

Nature Day Summer Camp

June 24 - August 16, Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Grades K-4

Main NBS Campus

Join us in our 300-acre outdoor classroom as we hike along trails, investigate life in and around ponds, get eye-to-eye with snakes and salamanders, and much more! All sessions include hiking, songs, spirited group games, and a trip to Third Beach. Children are grouped by age and led by trained educators. Groups will have a maximum of 12 campers and 1 staff per session.

Explorers Summer Camp

June 24 - August 16, MTTHF 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and W 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Grades 5-8

Main NBS Campus

These exciting sessions for older campers are filled with hiking, team-building activities, nature discovery, crafts, beach activities, and a Wednesday evening campfire. Please note the Wednesday schedule for all Explorers weeks. Groups will have a maximum of 12 campers and 1 staff per session.

Coastal Summer Camp

June 24 - August 16, Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Grades 2-8

Coastal Education Center at Third Beach

In this popular program, campers have the opportunity to explore tide pools, catch fish, and conduct experiments at our Coastal Education Center at Third Beach. Coastal Camp is offered to three different age groups in eight one-week sessions. Space is limited, so sign up quickly! Except for Monday registration, drop-off and pick-up will be at the Coastal Education Center at Third Beach. Groups will have a maximum of 10 campers.

Scholarship Forms

Norman Bird Sanctuary strives to serve everyone in our community, regardless of financial circumstances. A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available. Full scholarship applications must be received by June 1 and applicants will be notified by June 15. Partial scholarship applications must be received by July 1 and applicants will be notified by July 15. Awards are based upon need and the number of spaces available in camp programs. All information will be kept confidential.
