For in-person gifts, visit our Welcome Center any day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and our team can assist with membership and contributions. We accept cash, checks (made payable to 'Norman Bird Sanctuary') and credit cards (Visa / Mastercard / American Express).

You can make your contribution go further and take advantage of tax benefits by donating stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to the Norman Bird Sanctuary. Like other charitable contributions, gifts of stock and securities are tax-deductible. Unlike a cash donation, these gifts allow you to avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation of the asset.

Many companies offer employees the benefit of doubling the impact of their charitable gift through a Matching Gift program. It is often as easy as completing an online or paper form and returning it to Norman Bird Sanctuary – then we do the rest!

Here are the steps you can take to double your impact:

- Donate to the Norman Bird Sanctuary (thank you!).

- Connect with your employer to see if your company has a matching gifts program. If your company participates, please follow their guidelines to request a match. Your company may require you to fill out an online form or provide you with a paper form.

- After we confirm your gift, your company sends the matched amount directly to the sanctuary.

Planned gifts provide vital support for our organization as well as immediate or deferred tax benefits. Planned gifts create extraordinary opportunities for the Norman Bird Sactuary and preserve our future.

There are many easy giving options ranging from naming our organization as a beneficiary in your will to more complex trust arrangements. Please consult with your estate planning attorney to determine the right plan to achieve your goals.

Examples of easy and tax efficient planned gift options include:

Gifts by Will or Living Trust – Leave a bequest to the Norman Bird Sanctuary of a set amount or as a percentage of your estate; you can also gift from the balance or residue of your estate or make a beneficiary designation of certain assets. Benefits of leaving a bequest include (1) leaving a lasting legacy to be remembered (2) lessening the burden of taxes on your family and (3) possibly receiving estate tax savings.

Gifts of Retirement Plans – Name the Norman Bird Sanctuary as a beneficiary of your retirement plans; your retirement plan may be worth more when donated to the Norman Bird Sanctuary than to your heirs.

IRA Distributions - If you or a family member are 70 ½ or older with an individual retirement account (IRA), you can make a tax-free gift to the Norman Bird Sanctuary directly from your IRA, reducing your taxable income. This is called a qualified charitable distribution. If you are looking to make a qualified charitable distribution from your individual retirement arrangement (IRA), consider designating the Norman Bird Sanctuary as a recipient.

Gifts of Life Insurance – Name the Norman Bird Sanctuary as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy; this is a wonderful way to make a special gift to the Norman Bird Sanctuary without dipping into your capital assets.

Life Income Gifts – Earn income for yourself or beneficiaries when you create a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) or Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) to benefit the Norman Bird Sanctuary.

If you would like to direct family and friends to make gifts to the Norman Bird Sanctuary in lieu of flowers, the following is suggested wording for an obituary or other tribute:
