Norman Bird Sanctuary is determined to engage the community’s youngest naturalists with the environment and natural knowledge to foster a hands-on, child-centered exploration of our beautiful campus. Guided by skilled teacher naturalists, participants will experience holistic growth through adventurous play and structured risk-taking. Our education programs encourage children ages 2-18 to develop confidence in the wild, gain self-esteem as naturalists, and even learn the meaning of land stewardship.
Our Field Trip programs offer engaging, year-round experiences in nature for our youngest Preschoolers through advanced High School students. We offer these programs in two locations: our Main Campus and our Coastal Education Center at Third Beach.
In collaboration with FabNewport, NBS is proud to offer a hands-on, 8-week environmental science class on the Sanctuary campus. The class focuses on collaborative exploration, research and investigation in nature, while helping learners develop their environmental literacy and have fun!
Join us for educational, fun, individually-designed Private Hikes, which offer members and visitors the exciting opportunity to meander the trails with a knowledgeable NBS Naturalist by their side.
Our 300+ acre classroom provides the perfect venue for your troop’s investigation of the natural world. Our programs, including exciting overnight adventures for Scout groups, are designed to help Scouts complete badges and other goals!
Our After School Program series provides a way for students to actively participate in nature-based crafts, games, stories, and biofact explorations after the school day is done.
This workshop supports holistic growth through adventurous play and structured risk-taking. Participating in these unique 5-week workshops will help our Forest Fledglings develop confidence in the wild, gain self-esteem as naturalists, and even learn the meaning of land stewardship.
