Join us for the first lecture in our Winter Speaker Series
Environmental scientist Peter Lockwood will present a 1.5-hour lecture at Norman Bird Sanctuary exploring the often-overlooked plants beneath our feet. Drawing on decades of experience as a field biologist, Peter will provide an overview of our grasses and provide an entry point for those interested in understanding these beautiful and valuable plants. He will delve into our concept of grasslands in the context of local history and landscape ecology and discuss why grasslands are perhaps the least understood, but maybe most important, habitat type in the changing landscape of Southern New England.
The lecture will also highlight Peter's family connection to the Norman Bird Sanctuary, a landscape that continues to serve as a living laboratory for conservation, restoration and ecological understanding. There will be a short, hands-on exercise for all participants to engage in.
