Where Classroom Meets Conservation: The Living Laboratory
A dynamic field research partnership between the Norman Bird Sanctuary and Salve Regina University, training the next generation of environmental stewards right here on Aquidneck Island.
The 2026 Ecology Field School
In May and June of 2026, our 300-acre living laboratory has become an active hub for advanced scientific inquiry. Through an intensive five-week field school, undergraduate researchers from Salve Regina University work on-site full-time alongside Dr. Jameson Chace and Norman Bird Sanctuary staff. Immersed in all aspects of ecological investigation – from experimental design and field data collection to final analysis and public presentation – these students establish the vital baselines that drive our conservation efforts year-round.
