Parents and preschoolers! Join NBS educators for a fresh spring series of nature stories geared toward the youngest visitors.  Each week a story will complement a nature walk focused on the sensory experiences around the garden and trails.  This program is rain or shine; in the event of inclement weather, an animal presentation will be substituted for the walk.

Eyes on Amphibians

Visit NBS for some amphibian exploration!  Learn all about the natural history of amphibians and which species can be found in Rhode Island.  Guests will take a naturalist-guided hike through NBS property, looking for frogs, toads, and salamanders, as well as their eggs in the pond, stream, and vernal pools.

Some rocky terrain on this hike route makes this an intermediate difficulty level.

Spring Migration Ecotour

May is an exciting time to see droves of migrating warblers, raptors, shorebirds, and other species. Join NBS naturalists on a trip designed to hit birding hot spots throughout southern New England.  The itinerary will be informed by recent sightings reports.  Whether you’re looking to get a jump on your year list or to simply learn more about birding, you’ll love this tour! Pack a bag lunch to go with provided snacks and water refills.  Dress warmly with appropriate footwear, binoculars and a reusable water bottle are recommended. Sign up now, space is limited!
