Pre-K Spring Story & Stroll

Parents and preschoolers! Join NBS educators for a fresh spring series of nature stories that will inspire your favorite youngster to explore in nature. After the story, take your preschooler by the hand for a nature walk focused on the sights, sounds, and smells around the garden and trails. This program is rain or shine; in the event of inclement weather, an animal presentation will be substituted for the walk.

Woodcock Walk

Witness the American Woodcock’s fascinating “sky dance” mating display on a twilight walk on the trails and learn more about the special adaptations of this elusive woodland shorebird. This elusive woodland shorebird’s aerial acrobatics is a reminder that spring is on its way!

Fireside Series: Trivia Night

Trail trekkers, wildlife wizards and birding buffs! Gather your flock for an entertaining evening by the fire in Mabel’s Studio, testing your knowledge of nature, wildlife, and Norman Bird Sanctuary trivia! Co-hosted by spirited NBS naturalists Matt Schenck and Mark Pagliarini, the Fireside Trivia Night will pit teams of one or more against one another to answer light-hearted and fun questions.

Enter the raffle and win great prizes including a $100 gift certificate to Newport Restaurant Group establishments such as Castle Hill Inn, 22 Bowen’s, and more!

Complimentary wine, beer, and bar snacks will be served.

Eyes on Amphibians

With warm weather and spring showers bringing out the salamanders, there is no better time for some amphibian exploration! Learn from live amphibian Animal Ambassadors up close and find out which species can be found in Rhode Island before hitting the trails on a naturalist-guided hike in search of frogs, toads, and salamanders, as well as their eggs in the pond, stream, and vernal pools.

Some rocky terrain on this hike route makes this an intermediate difficulty level.

Recommended for ages 6 and up
